Overhead Conveyor

As a general meaning, such term applies to any type o conveyor that follows a high path. However, within the terminology of material handling, the term “overhead conveyor” has been employed for devices usually driven by robust chains, which insert trolleys with an accessory that allow hanging different products; trolleys are usually overhead, allowing free passage under them. Overhead conveyors may follow paths as complicated as required, including curves of various degrees, as well as ascending or descending according to the user’s needs. As a standard, there are different types of chains and trolleys. Overhead conveyors may be ‘power only’ only transporting products, or ‘power and free’ transporting and stowing products. The most common types are X-348, X-458, and X-678, which provide a greater or smaller size and capacity, which may vary from grams up to tons. This type of overhead conveyors are highly reliable and provide a long service life.

Overhead conveyors are employed in various industries that require moving shapeless product flows, although rarely handle regular products; they usually move metal products under processing, such as transporting metal pieces to be painted in an oven. However, overhead conveyors in general may handle any type of products, with the sole restriction of having to design their proper hanging accessories.
